Our Team

Max Rosen

Head Coach. Max Rosen is the Head Coach of EEC Debate. He is a graduate of McGill University and the University of Cambridge. In high school, Max won the 2020 World Schools Debating Championships as a member of Team Canada Debate. He also won both the BP and CNDF Canadian National Debating Championships. In university, he won the HWS Round Robin, the Cambridge IV, and the North American Universities Debating Championship. He is a WUDC Grand Finalist, where he also placed as the 4th best speaker. He was the best speaker at the HWS Round Robin and the Hart House IV. Max has coached over 15 students to be selected for Team Canada Debate, and coached the winners of the 2024 Harvard College World Schools Tournament. Max enjoys running, cycling, and canoe camping.

Ayal Mor

Head Coach. Ayal has reached finals at the Worlds Universities Debating Championships, the Oxford Inter Varsity Championships, and thrice at the European Universities Debating Championship. He ranked as a top 5 ESL speaker at the World and European Universities Debating Championships, and as a top 5 open speaker at the Oxford and Princeton Inter Varsity Championships. As a judge, Ayal has chaired Quarterfinals at the World, North American, and Asian Universities Debating Championships, Semifinals at the European Universities Debating Championships and the Princeton Inter Varsity, and finals at the United States Universities Debating Championships. Ayal has also been a Chief Adjudicator for the Cambridge, Princeton, Hart House and McGill Inter Varsities. In his free time, he enjoys strategy games, reading, and hiking.

Matthew Farrell

Matthew is a third year law student at the University of Toronto, and a graduate of McGill University. He has debated for over 8 years. As a member of Team Canada Debate, he has been a finalist and champion of the World Schools Debating Championships. Domestically, he is a BP High School National Champion. Internationally, he is a World University Debating Championships semifinalist, an Oxford IV finalist, and an HWS Round Robin Top 10 speaker. In his free time, he enjoys playing basketball and going to the beach.

Sourodip Paul

Sourodip is an MBA candidate at the University of Cambridge and a graduate of the Australian National University. He has debated for over a decade, winning the World Universities and Australasian Championships, and was named Australasian Best Speaker. He has reached finals at tournaments including the Cambridge IV and has been a Top 10 speaker at more than ten Asian, Australasian and World Championships. Sourodip has served as Chief Adjudicator at the Australasian Championships, Deputy Chief Adjudicator at WUDC, and on finals panels at multiple Worlds. As a coach, he has led WSDC Team Bangladesh and Team UAE to their highest preliminary rankings in 2023 and 2024, and coached breaking teams at WUDC. In his free time, he enjoys going to Old Trafford to watch Manchester United, going to concerts of his favorite artists and watching stand-up comedy live.

Armin Safavi

Armin recently finished his Masters at Oxford University, and is a graduate of the University of Toronto. He has over eight years of debate experience, representing Team Canada at the 2017 World Schools Debating Championship. In university, he has won the 2017 Central Novice Championship, ranked 1st at the 2017 Canadian BP Championships and reached the Grand Finals of the 2018 Cambridge IV. He also works for Refugees Seat, a non-profit politically empowering refugees.

Dr. Jacob Silcoff

Jacob recently finished medical school at McGill University, having previously completed a degree in computer engineering. In addition to winning the Hart House IV three times, he won both the Canadian National BP & CP Championships as well as the John’s Hopkins IV, was a finalist at the Yale IV, and was the top speaker at the Canadian Parliamentary National Championship twice. In his free time, Jacob enjoys rock climbing and cycling, and is currently doing research on the medical applications of virtual reality.

Micaela Lewis

Micaela is a law student at McGill with a BSc from in Biology. She has 13 years of debate experience and 7 years of coaching experience. Mic’s debate CV includes winning the 2022 BP National Championships, breaking first and top speaking at the 2019 Hart House IV, making finals at the North American Championships, and breaking as both a speaker and judge at Worlds. Mic enjoys going on walks in the forest to find salamanders and binging podcast episodes about the US Supreme Court.

Eamon Roach

Eamon is a third year International Relations student at the University of Toronto. During 2 years of university debate (plus many in high school) he has broken at many Canadian and American tournaments including Western IV, Guindon Cup, Chancellor’s Cup, Drexel IV, Canadian BP and CP championships, and the Colgate Open. In his free time he enjoys reminiscing about the 2019 Raptors playoff run.

Andrew Liu

Andrew is a fourth year student pursuing a dual degree in music and Ivey HBA at Western University. He has been debating competitively for 5 years. He has placed as the 8th best speaker at the McGill IV and the Canadian Universities Debating Championships, where he made the finals in the former and quarterfinals in the latter. He has also made the outrounds of tournaments such as the Princeton IV, Columbia IV, North American Debating Championships, John Hopkins Pre-WUDC, Vienna Pre-EUDC, and Scotland Pre-EUDC. In his free time, he enjoys playing piano and ultimate frisbee, as well as vibing to music on walks.

Diba Heydary

Diba is a fourth year student studying pure mathematics, earth sciences, and environmental systems at the University of Toronto. Throughout her 6 five years of debating experience, she has become a two-time national champion, having won the 2018 BP National Championship and the 2020 CNDF National Championship. Internationally, she was a Cambridge Schools BP Tournament semi-finalist in 2019, and a Harvard World Schools Invitational finalist in 2020.

Jaleelah Ammar

Jaleelah Ammar is a debater from the University of Ottawa. Jaleelah was the 7th best speaker at the North American Universities Debating Championship, the winner of the McGill IV (where she was a finalist the previous year) and Queens IV, and a quarterfinalist at the Yale IV and Hart House IV. Jaleelah is also an experienced judge, having judged the grand final of the European Universities Debating Championship as well as the semifinal of the World Universities Debating Championship. In her spare time, Jaleelah enjoys writing and music.

Adam Banihani

Adam is a fourth year Public Policy student at the University of Toronto. He has four years of debate experience, including as Hart House Debate President. Adam has achieved notable success in debating, reaching the octofinals at WUDC twice, advancing to the quarterfinals at Oxford IV, making it to the semifinals at both LSE IV and Western IV, and winning the title of Canadian Austral Champion. In his leisure time, Adam enjoys watching a lot of sports, particularly the UFC .

Eve Pigat

Eve is a fourth year Honours Economics student at McGill University. With 8 years of competitive debate experience, Eve has won the North American University Debating Championships and was a semifinalist at the World University Debating Championships. Eve is the President of the McGill Debating Union and has many years of experience coaching debate at all levels. Outside of debate, Eve enjoys reading, cooking, and playing the harmonica (poorly).
